I started the week fairly strong: Monday morning practice was canceled, but I managed to get myself up and onto the erg for the first time in ages. I also made it to Tuesday morning practice, where we did sprints and heaps of ab exercises. But I'm starting to notice what I've learned about shoulders - as we get older, a number of issues can contribute to shoulder instability and injury. Part of our ab workout involved a bunch of planks, and I'm feeling the consequences in my right shoulder - pain, not muscle soreness, around the glenohumeral joint. Counterproductive. Arg.
Sigh. That, plus trying to work away at two manuscripts, two presentations, and two job applications, has made for a busy week. It's not going to get much better anytime soon, either - the following Friday, I'll lead another R workshop section, and I've got a conference in mid-November that will require fairly extensive preparation.
So maybe it's time to restructure priorities - focus on some basic strengthening exercises and basic fitness, and not try to do too much in the rowing department.
Parts have come in, though, for the double and for an erg I'm refurbishing for the team.
