Jan. 21st, 2012 05:33 pmFirst, here are the plants, at present. Last weekend, I made a set of 20 small pots out of newsprint, and yesterday I added tomato and pepper seeds to them (see the first photo). I hope they are successful. I picked up a couple of succulents from Home Despot because I just couldn't resist their cuteness. I hope these ones don't die, but I'm not overly optimistic. I have re-potted them in a wee pot that's within miss Emma's reach. We'll see how that goes.
Then there's the spider plant I bought not too long ago. Normally, I wouldn't pay cash money for a spider plant, but I really wanted one to aid with the indoor air quality here - this house still has a residual stink. Next to that, you can see a couple of the other plants in the winter garden. I've been harvesting great, big leaves off of the mustard plant, and the lettuce is just about ready for nibbling. Same goes for the beet greens. There's one kale plant getting established among the turnips, and the onions are growing away. I can't tell if the strawberries are doing much.
Eventually, once I've cleared the current projects out of the garage and have gathered more wooden pallets, I'll build a couple of containers to put out along the driveway (pictured).
Currently taking up space in the garage:

Today, I finally finished stripping the last bits of paint off of the last couple of boards, which meant I could finally gather up as much of the paint particles as possible into a trash bag. Now that that mess is all cleared out, I have room to work on clear-coating two pieces at a time. I flipped this door over, and put the first coat on its underside, and also put an initial coat on the second door. A couple more coats, and then these two doors will be moved out of the garage to make room for construction of the desk base. Painting on coats goes pretty quickly - I'll try to get in a coat every day, if I can, for the next couple of days.
