Goddamn SUVs.
Apr. 27th, 2005 08:56 amHere's why I hate SUVs and the people who drive them. If only people had to re-take the driver's exam every time they got their licenses renewed. If only cars weren't ridiculously subsidized. Then maybe more people would walk or bike or take the bus, all of which offer more opportunities to interact with other people and fewer opportunities to kill other people.
I think
annikusrex got it right when she described driving as "hurtling along at ridiculous speeds in a metal box." Be careful with those metal boxes, people. Somebody might get hurt.
The worst is places with ridiculous speed limits. Take the GPMSA (Greater Phoenix Metro-Suburban Area...)--average city street speed limits are 45 mph. If a biker or pedestrian gets hit at that speed, he or she is mashed potatoes. The driver, meanwhile, might suffer some psychological damage, but NOTHING compared to the innocent victim.
Every day that passes, I hate cars more. And bad drivers. Keep those gasoline prices climbing, until the whiny SUV drivers have no other choice than to leave their hideous beasts parked in the driveway to rust into oblivion.
