Last night T and I watched Amores Perros, a film about life in Mexico City. It has been soooooooooooooooooo long since I've seen a good movie! It was fantastic. It was phenomenal. It was violent and graphic (particularly with respect to doggies, so dog-lovers beware). The cinematography was gorgeous, and it was refreshing to FINALLY watch a movie and have no idea how it was going to work out without watching it all the way through. Ahhh, the joys of foreign film.

I think I'm gonna get me a Green Cine subscription when my schedule calms down a bit. I miss good filmage.

In related good filmage news, the "Valley Art" theater, which is three blocks from my house, FINALLY stopped playing What the #$@%^$ (aka Fuck) do we Know?. YAAAAYYYY! It has been playing that awful new-age madness for a FULL YEAR!

And now it's playing Tarnation! I've wanted to see that movie for forever!

Can you tell that I'm excited by all this?

Seriously, with good film, my life is complete.

I feel your pain. Our small theatre has brought back Sideways, as if seeing it once wasn't enough for some people. I personally hated both the main characters and despised the ending of the movie. People think this "heartwarming" wine movie is the best thing of the year. So, in the meantime, while we wait for Sideways-mania to end in our town, the best option this weekend is Sin City. I am less than thrilled. Sometimes the quaint small town thing gets old, like when there are only two good movies showing anywhere in town.

Would a subscription to something like Netflix be feasible there?

And somehow or another I've avoided seeing Sideways. Maybe because of all of the hype it has received. The California vintners appreciate it, though. I also specifically avoided seeing What the @$#%#$ do We Know? because of the people obsessed with it. Blah.

Honestly, films like that leave me feeling like I've just allowed precious minutes of my life slip away. Oh well.

And I must say, can you imagine small town life before the internet? It must have been even worse with respect to cultural opportunities.
