Abeyance

Well, I spent six straight hours teaching yesterday. Then I had a few minutes to scarf down some food before going to ANOVA (my statistics class...If you ever have a statistical question, ask away. I won't claim to not be a nerd. How's that for a double negative?). After that I was utterly exhausted, so I shuffled home and eventually made some food and ate it and then watched Sex & the City instead of doing any work. Thrilling, I know. All I can say is, I will NEVER let people tell me I can teach 2 labs in the space of 1 again. I love those easy assurances, "Oh, sure you can do it. No problem." Never mind the people claiming that the impossible is possible don't have to actually do it. Bastards. Never again. It overwhelmed the students and me, and there are alternative solutions that would make life much easier.

This morning, when I got up to go to crew practice, the top of my throat felt all scratchy and swollen, so I convinced myself to go back to bed and sleep. On the one hand, I feel like a wimp for doing that. But on the other hand, I've had a residual cough ever since I got sick in December, and last night it was worse. So it's time to make an appointment at the Health Center to figure out what's up. I haven't turned into a chain smoker, so that's ruled out. It could be pollen blooms, but it's a bit early for allergy season (I once thought I was allergy-free, and then I moved to Arizona, where pollen is CRAZY in the springtime). But whatever is causing this foul phlegm needs to stop or at least be diagnosed and explained.

I had a small nightmare about the discussion I had to lead today, but all for naught, of course. The "discussion" turned out to be the prof doing most of the talking. Hopefully he felt that it went well. I tried to chime in as often as I could, but of course it's all about a subject that HE knows a great deal about and about which I know very little. It's for an interesting class, though--Ecological Stoichiometry. Basically it's about the intersections between chemical stoichiometry (the ratios of elements) and ecology. Neat stuff because it's a combination of subjects that I enjoy immensely.
