Above is a link to a picture of my lake. Or, at least, the lake I usually row on. Apparently Arizona has been getting some rain recently.

Anyways. I'm both happy and sad to be back. I missed my room and my house. But I didn't miss living in the middle of a giant, cultureless suburbia. I picked up the local weekly, and observed that What the #$@#% do We Know has been playing at the "arts" theater for 9 months now. All of the other theaters are playing exactly the same five movies. The writing is...lacking, to be kind. I shall have to resort to old-fashioned entertainment--books, crochet, and the like.

There's something to be said for "old-fashioned" entertainment... Something that keeps the hands busy and keeps the blood flowing just enough to keep the brain wandering is much better than something that numbs the mind and keeps the fingers busy shoveling popcorn...

What the ________ Do We Know just started playing here in my little college town, and most people are interested in its quirkiness and want to know which particular religious sect made it, but not interested enough to go sit and watch it. I frequently resort to old-fashioned entertainment like knitting and reading David Sedaris, but that's only because the temperature is dropping, there's three feet of snow out, and I don't have anywhere to be.

i would just like to point out that in the initial publicity materials, what the #$#@% do we know was called what the FUCK do we know, and that they changed the name at the last minute so as not to offend the religiously unaffiliated crystal-healing hippies that are their target audience.

In that light, I'd like to point out that a cute lesbian Scandinavian film called Fucking Amal had its name changed to Show Me Love for viewers in the United States. I don't think that it had a large effect on that film's viewership. And I'd also like to point out that by changing the name, what the @#$% do we know has officially offended ME, so I refuse to see it. For that reason AND for the above reason that it has obliterated any and all hopes I had of seeing anything decent in theaters in AZ.
