Chagrin

It is much to my chagrin that I must report that I failed to bus my dishes after enjoying coffee at a coffeeshop this morning. On the other hand, now that I'm accustomed to getting fancy designs in the foam on my lattes, I'm a bit irked that all the designs are made with right-handed customers in mind. Next time I'll have to see what happens if I ask for a left-handed design. Yes, folks, espresso has gone to a new level, and by that I am not referring to the fictional language-manglings invented by Starbucks. Rather, lattes served in traditional, wide latte cups, with leafy designs or hearts or such things in the foam. Anywhere else, I'd just be happy to GET foam on a latte!

I started reading another book by Thoreaux (that's not Thoreau, folks), which has reminded me how much I like him.

Novelty appears, and the first thing you know someone is complaining about it...

I don't expect much from the 90 percent of the population that is right-handed. I write in your right-handed fashion. I cut with your right-handed scissors. I'm often relegated to sitting in your right-handed desks. I shake your righteous right hands with my right hand. I write in right-handed notebooks. And, for the most part, I drink out of mugs that are decorated for right-handed people. Yet. I am not right-handed. I reserve my right to complain about all things right-handed because a full ten percent of the population is marginalized by the right-handed majority.

When I started studying native American cultures, one thing that struck me was that many native American nations do NOT run things by democratic majority. Instead, things are run by consent. Obviously, this leads to a VERY different political process.

Left-handed people are NOT going to go away, and I reserve my left to complain about right-hand biases.
