Today I am visiting the Capitol Hill library, which is not quite as odd as the Central Library was (I'm happy to report that, included in the regrets in the latest edition of the Stranger, is the regret that the Stranger neglected to point out that the spiral shape of the stacks creates a firetrap). Meanwhile, Time magazine continues to laud the much-lauded building. And Seattle continues to build ridiculous structures.

But I wanted to talk about the Capitol Hill branch. It appears that the libraries are eagerly stepping into the role of computer-and-internet-provider-for-all; when one walks into this library, the first thing one confronts is a bank of computers. But here the design is much less unfriendly; the main part of the library is shaped like a ship's prow, with large windows and comfortable seating along the back part, and a latticework structure forming the point of this ship of books. I'll stay here awhile to read.
