On my way home from the grocery store, I ride past a house whose front yard is full of prickly pear plants that have abundant fruits. As I go past, I always wonder if the owner of the house harvests all of the fruits to eat them, because they're delicious and it would be a shame to waste them. One day, I think I'll end up knocking on the door to ask.

In contrast, the prickly pear fruits that are for sale in the grocery store come from California. Why do Arizonans need Californian prickly pears?

It might be that there is some kind of trade agreement that requires those to be considered over the local ones.

everyone knows that things from california are just inherently better than those from arizona.

It's possible that the inhabitant may see the fruits as a nuisance and would be thrilled if some nice stranger offered to "remove them". I say ride buy a couple of times a day and see if you can catch the owner outside. The fruits really are lovely, and make the best syrup for margaritas if one is so inclined!
