Methinks I may have spoiled my dinner
Oct. 21st, 2007 06:11 pmIt has been a busy day. I hauled myself out of bed kind of early (7-ish) and then puttered around for a bit. Then I got organized for the big events of the day: first, I swooped through campus to pick up some papers to grade (wishful thinking there). Then I headed out to Bunna Coffee for a quick bite and a half-pound of their espresso roast (we shall see if it's any good). From there, I ventured further afield, to the exciting destination of the Chandler Mall (
trywhy had recommended checking there for gaskets for my stovetop espresso pot).
Let it be known to all that I Do Not Like Malls At All. I don't like the commodified shopping experience or the piped-in music, or trying to maneuver through the parking lagoons to reach them (mall parking lots are WAY worse than strip-mall parking lots). Malls epitomize a lot of things about Americans and American society that I could live quite happily without. However, I cannot live without my moka pot, so the expedition was necessary. Upon arriving at the mall, I located a bike rack and the store selling the needed item, which hadn't opened yet (malls aren't very busy at 11 am on a Sunday, I suppose). Once I found what I needed, I got the heck out of Dodge and headed back towards home.
It was gusty today; the wind made for a fairly pleasant ride towards the mall--I rode past one of those speed-checker signs which clocked me at a comfortable 20 mph. The speed-checker on the way home caught me going 12 mph, and I barely made it back before it was time for the Crafternoon. [I should also thank
trywhy for the recommended route to the mall along Rural--it made for a reasonably pleasant ride on a Sunday morning. It would probably suck at certain other times of the day/week, but not bad for a Sunday, and the alternatives would probably be universally worse].
Ahh, the Crafternoon. That was quite nice, and for me an interesting/amusing mixture of people: lj personalities
crume and
trifold_flame (though she really fits into multiple categories), my rowing partner C, biking buddies M and K, and Scrabble/crafty friends L, N and D. It's good for these folks to get a chance to meet each other, and it's also always funny for me to see how people from various facets of my life interact with each other. It was really cool to see the range of projects that everyone brought, from collage to mosaic deconstruction to felting to blanket-making to electrical repairs and Jesus-tape-wallet-making. Oh, and some jewelery-making and photo-framing, and some knitting. My friends are so creative, it's great!
We also ate lots of delicious goodies: hummus and fruit, figs, and a lot of chocolate-chip oatmeal cookies (aside to
sytharin: I think they should be nicknamed Rosemary's Awesome Cookies, or RAC, since you're the one who popularized them in our family).
So I think dinner is going to be small.
Ahh.
