Whadda day...
Feb. 25th, 2007 07:17 pmSo I spent the morning weighing fungus. Yes, you read that right. Believe me, few activities could be more tedious, especially because our nano-balance doesn't appear to be functioning properly. I killed two cockroaches as I waited for the balance to register a weight, so I suspect it's those little nasty bastards who are running around inside of the balance and wreaking havoc. Since it's the weekend I couldn't find the relevant parties with whom to discuss the situation. By the end I was swearing up a storm and decided to call it quits while I still retained some shreds of sanity. Hopefully I'll be able to finish weighing tomorrow morning with somebody else's balance.
So then I met up with J and we biked down to a coffeeshop to hang out and catch up and get some work done. 'twas thus a much more pleasant and civilized afternoon.
Then I came home and made tortillas from scratch and learned why most people just buy their tortillas instead of bothering to make them. I think I set off the smoke alarm about 4,827 times. The smoke detector is touchy to begin with, but it definitely didn't like the smoky cast-iron frying pan (OTOH I think the frying pan is re-seasoned now). My cat kept giving me annoyed looks as I ran around with a pole, trying to whack the button to end the shrieking. I test my smoke detector at least once a week, folks. It's pretty exciting.
The tortillas were pretty tasty--they're a hybrid corn/flour variety that my aunt C likes to make. And now my weekend of cooking has come to an end and it's time for the new week to start. Wahoo!
