This morning we flipped the boats back over and then clipped and pulled out most of the copper stitches. Then we filleted the interior joints, which took a good long while. After giving those about an hour to cure, we laid out fiberglass and glassed the inside. Here's our instructor, demonstrating how to get the correct thickness of epoxy into the fiberglass:

Boatbuilding Day 3: Interior fillets and fiberglass

The fussy fillets were worth it for making the fiberglass application go more smoothly. S commented that if he had his druthers, he'd prefer to carry out some of these steps more carefully. But it's all a compromise - taking the time and care would mean it would take us more than the week alotted for the class to assemble these.

I am learning a ton about working with epoxy, most especially about mixing in "wood flour" to get certain consistencies for certain applications.

I am also clearly unaccustomed to being on my feet all day.

We checked out MOTO Pizza for dinner, which was in an interesting building housing an eclectic array of businesses, apparently including Moth & Myth (makers of beautiful insect prints/cutouts).

Tasty, Detroit-style deep dish pizza, topped with arugula and pickled cabbage.

I didn't want to stare in awkwardly, but here's an art studio in the building:

Then we checked out Pocket Beach, in Myrtle Edwards Park:

Getting home was interesting. Number 8 bus up the hill, to the 48. You never quite know what you'll encounter on the number 8 bus. It's just one of those things you have to do, if you want to do anything near the Space Needle but you live over in Montlake.

Did I mention I'm tired? I'm tired. But pleased. Pleased and tired.
