So, yeah. I felt fine yesterday. Then I slept restlessly last night but got up when the alarm went off at 4:43 to see about rowing practice.

I stood in the dining room for a minute after turning up the heat, and concluded that I felt...off.

So I texted our coach to cancel, then had a brief moment of vertigo somewhat reminiscent of the day when I got diagnosed with mono and collapsed on the floor the second I got home.

I made it back into bed just fine and slept until 7 am when it started to get light outside.

Now I just have a low-grade fever.

I'm grateful/relieved that it's Thursday, which means I can work from home today. If I had to I would steel myself to bike in to campus, but it's just as well to not add to the stresses and strains.

Also, today I turn 40 years old. I can't quite make sense of that number, but there you have it! I will celebrate this evening by running a rowing board meeting, just like last year, heh.

At least unlike last year it won't be a FULL day of teaching labs and then a board meeting.

I'm going to give myself a pass if I don't get much work done today.

So yeah.

Our spring semester starts up on February 22. Eleven days from now. Not enough time. It's never enough time. Got to get ready for the plate-spinning.

There are so many moving pieces to juggle in getting ready, and apparently my brain has decided it wants to shorten the list of things that need to get set up, so it insisted we work on setting things up this morning.

So I now have the initial course pages revised and published for all four of my courses. I also got my office hours scheduled and set up my Zoom office hours link. Each course also has its own standing Zoom link, too. A couple of the courses are intended to be in person, but I wanted to have everything set up already in the event that we need to use Zoom at any point. You never know.

I still need to finalize two of my syllabi, but I have to go in to campus and use some files on my work computer for that.

Maybe now that I've made this progress I can get that anxious side of my brain to calm down enough so I can work on some slightly more thoughtful tasks, like manuscript-writing and (small) grant-writing.

Thankfully the morning's low-grade fever hasn't gotten any worse.
