Poke #2 day 2
Feb. 11th, 2021 07:50 amSo, yeah. I felt fine yesterday. Then I slept restlessly last night but got up when the alarm went off at 4:43 to see about rowing practice.
I stood in the dining room for a minute after turning up the heat, and concluded that I felt...off.
So I texted our coach to cancel, then had a brief moment of vertigo somewhat reminiscent of the day when I got diagnosed with mono and collapsed on the floor the second I got home.
I made it back into bed just fine and slept until 7 am when it started to get light outside.
Now I just have a low-grade fever.
I'm grateful/relieved that it's Thursday, which means I can work from home today. If I had to I would steel myself to bike in to campus, but it's just as well to not add to the stresses and strains.
Also, today I turn 40 years old. I can't quite make sense of that number, but there you have it! I will celebrate this evening by running a rowing board meeting, just like last year, heh.
At least unlike last year it won't be a FULL day of teaching labs and then a board meeting.
I'm going to give myself a pass if I don't get much work done today.

Date: 2021-02-11 03:54 pm (UTC)This morning I wound up texting back and forth with one of my rowing teammates from Arizona. She and I rowed together from around 2005 up until 2011. She's 20 years older than me so we joke a lot about our ages. It's amazing to me to be approaching the age that she was when we first started rowing together.

Date: 2021-02-11 04:50 pm (UTC)Y'know, it IS very nice to know my immune system works. It boosts my confidence that this vaccination will stick. I would much rather feel this way for a day or whatever and know exactly why I feel this way vs. having that General Sense of Malaise where I don't know if it's allergies, a nasty head cold, the flu, or It. I hate that General Sense of Malaise.

Date: 2021-02-11 04:52 pm (UTC)I am careening into the Spring Semester now, ieeee! As with the fall, our spring semester schedule is compressed, with almost zero breaks. Just 2 days in total. I'm starting to get nervous. So I won't be able to promise too much but of course I would still love to see you and celebrate.
As mentioned above, at least in this case there's a clear cause for the crummy feelings. A lot easier to bear than any and all situations where the cause is unknown. So I can't complain too much. :^)
