Last night I was a '50's housewife, in an ironic tribute to Betty Friedan (author of one of my favorite books, The Feminine Mystique. Which reminds me--I will be replying to my own question-post on books sometime soon. Maybe when I'm not overwhelmed).
Anyway. First I made a new dish out of my favorite Indian cookbook. The book lists the names of dishes and then gives English translations to them, similar to how I have renamed Shahi Paneer Korma "Indian Spaghetti." Except the book gives dishes names like "Cabbage Potato Extravaganza." Last night I made "Vegetables in a Mingling Mood." The book certainly makes me aware of how important tantalizing names can be. In any case, I'm not feeling well, and as a testament to that fact I actually added the ginger that the recipe called for. And then T made some ginger-pepper tea and I actually drank some. This is not typical behavior. And yes, I know that for some of you, the fact that I don't like ginger is like someone saying they don't like garlic (I mean, really. Who doesn't like garlic? Okay, I know of one or two people, but they are obviously crazy). So there you have it. The vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, eggplant, peas, green beans, tomatoes, cauliflower) mingled for a bit too long, but it was quite tasty.
After that, I worked on costumes for the half marathon this weekend--
kihle and I are dressing up in bee costumes, so I'm making some wrap skirts. I am already very impressed with my sewing abilities--one of the skirts is mostly shaped, complete with form-fitting tucks, and just needs some black stripes. I'm borrowing
kihle's sewing machine, which works like a charm and is making me realize that most of my recent sewing machine endeavors have been on sub-optimal machines. A good machine can make a serious difference. Yes, there will be pictures when the costumes are complete, because they are going to be AWESOME (perhaps almost as awesome as our hot hot pink marathon outfits).
