Monday the 13th [rowing]

The overnight thunderstorm woke me up at 4:08, 10 minutes before the alarm was scheduled to go off, with some dramatic lightning flashes. So I got up to look at the radar and think about whether or not to go to rowing practice. I decided not to, and then shortly thereafter got a group text from another teammate looking to cancel. Once I woke up slightly more, I realized that someone would still need to go to the boathouse no matter what, because not all teammates were on the group text and it would really suck to be one of the people not on the group text and show up and have nobody there.

So eventually after some more coordinating a teammate came by to pick me up and we drove down to the boathouse. (I prefer to not ride my bike through lightning)

By the time we got there, it wasn't raining anymore and the water was flat and absolutely beautiful. But it was just us and the coach, so instead of rowing we just had a short meeting and went on our way.

Oh, and meanwhile there was a ridiculous flurry of messages in the group text (some of them mine). That group text turned out to be a really bad idea.

It wasn't until later today that I remembered that today is Monday the 13th.

You'd think by now I'd have the whole "show up" routine down and would not be falling for sabotage tricks. But on the other hand, can you expect me to be thinking clearly at 4 am? That's a lot to ask of a person.

They keep forecasting thunder here among the hills, but it never seems to arrive.

I believe thunder/lightning may be one of the more difficult things to accurately forecast!

I expect sensible people to be asleep at that hour. :)

But out of curiosity, when do you go to bed?

In theory, as soon as I can!

In practice around or a bit after 9 pm.

And yes, sensible people ARE asleep at 4 am. :^)
