Temperature/humidity thresholds for sleeping are simultaneously a source of huge frustration and fascinating to me.

I hit a very distinct upper limit last night, when the ambient humidity was at 90% and the thermometer on the thermostat in the house said 84 degrees F. The thermometer outside said 75 degrees but I guess the large thermal mass of the house plus stagnant air meant that cooler outside air just wasn't moving in, even with a box fan in a window on high.

I wound up doing a horrible circuit of lying on the front porch on a camping pad, taking a quick shower, opening windows, and turning off ceiling fans (I'm convinced they block cross-breezers).

So it's probably time to resign myself to buying a window a/c unit. If you have any specific recommendations on that front, let me know. S managed to locate some sort of bed a/c contraption, mostly as a joke, but maybe those are actually a better idea from an energy efficiency standpoint?

I am getting so tired of buying small appliances. Humidifier (ha), room air filter, now an air conditioner, what will be next?

Why, a recirculating parts washer of course!

Though a five gallon size seems more likely to be the thing for bicycle parts.

Now.... I have been patiently listening to my husband and dog be uncomfortable in the heat this summer so I looked into an AC as a present and finally asked, "Hey, do you want me to buy you an AC?"
"Oh, we have one. It's in the garage."
!!!!!

He just has not installed it.... nor has he in the past month since I brought it up... which means he just must not actually be hot.

I'd check craigslist for the smaller ones but then have to worry about smokers who may have pre-owned it....

I endorse air conditioning. Despite whatever people claim, it wasn’t this humid and hot when most northeastern architecture was built and there comes a point where houses just don’t cool off.

The floor units aren’t bad, really!

I do recommend starting cooling the bedroom as soon as you get home from work as it takes some hours to get the humidity to a comfortable level.

Energy efficiency reminds me: it looks like y'all can get your electricity from a community solar set-up there. (Assuming you're not using something similar already.)
