Friday the 13th
Aug. 13th, 2021 10:24 amYesterday turned hellish. Rowing interpersonal drama tends to ebb and flow over time, and this week it's been high, which puts a lot of extra work on my plate and makes it hard for me to sleep at night.
In case I wasn't enough on edge already, there was a heat advisory for our area yesterday. That meant that the State Animal Health Inspector showed up. For me it was a surprise visit. The Inspector did not show up to check on my animals specifically, but to check on the animals of a colleague who is currently out of town (a team of students takes care of the day-to-day work but they aren't around all of the time). So I wound up having to be the person to track down a spare key to let the Inspector in to check the animals.
I am fine, and even welcoming of surprise visits, although this particular Inspector has already done things that have made my life more difficult and that I personally don't think have translated into actual improvements in animal well-being (I will absolutely, 100% comply with requirements on this front, but I don't have to like it!).
It's just that the very first surprise visit is very much a surprise and it's stressful to be caught off-guard.
Anyway, that all happened BEFORE Friday the 13th, so I'm very much inclined to duck and cover today, if you know what I mean.
I have 4 million billion meetings tomorrow.
