Not all of the houseplants survived, because I was foolish and brought them in to campus rather than trusting/burdening our neighbor across the street (she did an impeccable job, once again, with the succulents left behind, and I think she enjoyed it!).

However, the vegetable garden itself had some fun while we were gone. Here are the before photos, as a reminder:

And, after:

Summer 2021 Lazy Garden

(we compulsively pulled a bunch of weeds before taking this photo, though).

Stuff grew! The watering timer worked fantastically! I have never seen raspberries grow that tall before. The bumblebees are loving it. The small plot on the right was supposed to be for peppers and basil, although even before I left some critter nibbled on all of the purple basil seedlings I put in. There's green basil there now, and the pepper plant was as productive as we've ever seen. The other basil that got planted in one of the porch rail containers has all flowered and gone to seed. I need to replant the porch rail planters with more lettuce now.

The tomato harvest isn't going to be as robust as last year, although maybe if I give the plants some worm dirt and prop them up some more they'll grow a bit more, at least.

Both dahlias survived after all!! I will label them better this winter. "DAHLIAS: DO NOT PLANT IN GROUND BEFORE MAY."

The fig tree has baby figs on it:

The weeds outcompeted the eggplant plant. The plant was still there, once I pulled out all the weeds around it.

There are 3 or 4 robust squash plants going. I believe they're probably going to produce more of the inedible squashes we got last year. I think they're the hybrid children of the cow pumpkin. I am really hoping that next year I can convince [personal profile] scrottie to let me plant a long pie pumpkin instead.

Basically zero new wildflowers sprouted up in this patch. I think the lilies outcompeted them, which is probably unsurprising:

We did have one rogue sunflower sprout up in the main bed.

Not bad at all, for a garden left unattended for 7 weeks.
