Peepin' [Hudson River kayak day]
Oct. 14th, 2020 09:05 amFinally, 10 minutes for blogging.
On Sunday morning,
scrottie and I went kayaking! Finally!
I think I read something last week that was declaring that it was peak 'leaf peeping' at that moment. Based on all of the trees I see while rowing and while riding my bike to work, I believe that declaration was premature for my particular leaf-peeping corner. This week is looking pretty amazing.
I only just realized that leaf peeping in the northeastern US is kind of analogous to the Japanese cherry blossom celebrations every spring, although of course one is about celebrating spring, pretty flowers, and new life, and the other is about dead leaves and dark, cold, wet winter. (although the colors sure are pretty in the fall, and fall weather can be utterly glorious!). It was just interesting to make the connection about these larger cultural things that are about an awareness of the seasons and passage of time. But with a cyclical element, not just the linear passage of time.
In any case, a couple of photos:
I still don't know what the building is that's in the background in this image. It looks like it has a story or four associated with it. This is the Hilton Park Boat Ramp.

Most of the trees had yellow leaves, like so:

Artsy-fartsy and whatnot:

I loved that it was a clear enough day to be able to see the Catskills off in the far distance:

Another great day to be out in a boat.
