This morning's status: My throat was scratchy again when I woke up, lymph nodes still swollen. But no worse than yesterday. So I did not go rowing. I have moved today's class to be completely online, although I still came in to work. It's hard to feed crickets from home, or issue instructions on what's involved in feeding the crickets. I don't feel tired or anything, and another colleague with an office down the hall who also has some seasonal allergies was noting similar symptoms this morning.

Basically this situation right now.

Meanwhile, yesterday a package came in with supplies for my science writing students:

Things ordered for my job

Fox pee does not smell good, in case you wondered. Emma observed that it had a smell but did not seem to have a strong reaction to it one way or another.

The little mp3 player here is pretty cute. Once the students are finished using it to play hawk noises, it will replace my Sansa Clipp as an erg music player.

We'll see how the squirrels feel about it all.

"...in case you wondered." Actually, I hadn't. But I was told that, as a child, I lacked curiosity, lol. Hope you feel better soon...

"Ha! Yeah, I _had_ to go and sniff it, and now you don't have to! :^)"

My mother warned me about kids like you. But you do have your uses, lol.

And, yes, it's impossible to be perfect, especially under present circumstances.

Thank you for continuing to do what you do...

I first read out of the corner of my eye "package came" as "care package" and saw the fox urine and snort-laughed.

Years ago while in Santa Barbara I went on a bird walk with someone who had bird sounds on an Ipod and a little speaker (this was before smartphones, and the first time I had seen someone bring bird sounds into the field.) He was demonstrating it, played a hawk sound, and a cat two houses down flattened itself and army-crawled under a parked car. Guess it works!

This is just anecdotal data and zero judgment on what you decide to do. But we had the first case of possible at-work transmission a little while ago at the mothership. Someone thought they were having allergies, and so didn't check any symptoms on the daily checklist we all fill out, and came into work. They later tested positive. Someone they worked with (too closely for too long, they wore masks but didn't quite follow the distance rules) also tested positive. Not proof that is where it happened, but they are warning us about dismissing symptoms as something else.

Which, admittedly, is really hard to do especially for those of us who get random Covid symptoms for other reasons. Do we really want to trigger a whole process, like we would if we checked yes on our checklist? (The mothership has its own testing system, but out here it wouldn't be so streamlined.) I know I was coughing a lot last week because of the smoke...at least I assumed so. I occasionally have digestive issues, so I don't mark that on the checklist. But would I know if it were a Covid symptom?

Since I basically don't go anywhere I don't worry about it too much, but you are in a difficult position, and you of course can't control who you come in contact with and whether or not they are being careful.

Do you have a cricket sub in case you are laid low for whatever reason? I'm really wondering what winter cold/flu season is going to be like this year.
