Happy noises [teaching]
Sep. 14th, 2020 01:23 pmI've blogged before about one of the courses I'm teaching this fall, Scientific Writing.
Right now we're in the midst of an "Experiment planning" phase, where students first frame a broad question, come up with hypotheses, and then come up with a series of experiments to test their hypotheses. Towards the end of last week, it seemed as through groups were still working to find their footing. But during today's class period, most of the conversations I overheard were really happy conversations that indicated that the students were totally into their experiments and working out lots of logistics.
It was so good to have a chance to hear that. That's one of the big things missing from online courses. There are still so many risks with in-person teaching, but it's clear the students are grateful for what we can manage for now.
And meanwhile I get the enjoyment of recording a pep talk video about using R. I'm a little worried I'll make it way too long.
