The best way to get myself to do something is to turn it into an event.

I'm starting to work on incrementing up the distances to prepare for the Hudson River Marathon on October 17.

Today I made it up past the Menands Bridge, and around the corner, where I could see the next-furthest bridge, at River Street. Once I had the River Street bridge in my sights, I had to go for it. That put 18.5k in the bank for the morning. It was a stretch to go that far, in terms of the time available and in terms of current fitness/fatigue, but I couldn't resist the temptation and made it up and around.

The water was utterly beautiful and flat, and the morning air was cool - early fall weather.

Next Saturday I think I'm going to try and get an even earlier start so I can go even further up. I'd like to at least consistently do a half-marathon each week to get ready for the full deal.
