I am going to give credit where it's due. Yesterday, [personal profile] scrottie convinced me to apply a marine-grade sealant to the toilet valve. It needed to cure for at least 7 hours, so we did our fair share of bucket flushes, oh joy. This evening, I reattached the water inlet to the toilet, turned it on, and gave it a flush.

It still leaked.

Then I did more reading on the internet, including this page. Here's how you're supposed to diagnose a leaking toilet:

Leak diagnosis

(well, okay, you only need one color, but why stop there?)

If you read article 8 on the linked website, you'll learn what I figured out.

Sheesh.

I have a friend who had a related problem: someone had hung a toilet bowl deodorizer from that little tube and over time it had choked the fill tube off entirely.
So with it now correctly located, is it working right?
