As mentioned, about needing a phone:
I finally had the bandwidth at the right time to call up a folding bike shop in Arizona to find out what the deal is for buying a folding bike in this day and age. Long story short, I'll test-ride a bike when I get there and will then get an order in for what I want. There was an article in the local paper here today about how the bike supply shortage has meant that although there has been a lot of demand for bikes during the pandemic, bike shops haven't really been able to cash in because they haven't had bikes to sell. The person at the shop I called up had straightforward things to tell me, so I'll load up my bicycling gear and eventually I'll have a folding bicycle for Arizona and beyond.
I also talked with the person in charge about housing arrangements for summer research students. It sounds like the prospects of figuring out a good match on that front are low, so I'm back to exploring other fallback options. In a lot of ways it would be a big relief to NOT have to figure out how to arrange things to have people stay in the house while I am gone. There are limits to how much arranging I want to do.
And at S's suggestion I called up a local insurance agent and finally got squared away with car insurance for the borrowed car for the summer.
All of this stuff feels like it eats my brain. But now I can finally do my daily insect care and then get back to working on manuscripts (!!!!).
