Signs I have a lot going on: I wake up on successive mornings and am quickly wide-awake because my brain is busy reviewing the "to-do" lists without having asked for previous permission.

I knew July would be busy, so I'm not caught totally unprepared, but still.

Miss Emma appears to be the most recent culprit in The Animals' Mission to Destroy the Destroyed House - C caught her sneaking into their bedroom to pee on the floor while C fed S. Dammit, cat. So I have ordered up a gallon of Anti-Icky Poo as of this morning to do this stuff. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate carpet? It has probably been at least a week. What I'm wondering now is, should we just plan on going through and spraying down the entire carpet? Probably.

I am NOT doing the Budget rental truck thing this time around. I deeply, deeply hope I never have to go through anything like that move ever again in my life. Instead, I've called up UPack to schedule the delivery of two shipping pods the Friday before the end of the month. If I only use one, I only get charged for the one, which sounds like an excellent arrangement to me. They'll get shipped up to Lincoln and then stored there until December, and by then hopefully I'll know more about where I'll be going next. I'm so grateful to be making enough money here to be able to do something other than the cheapest, most bare-bones method of moving stuff around (i.e. hauling it all myself to and from various storage units).

The Jolly Roger's worn-out front tire still has a slow leak, so I've ordered two new Schwalbe Marathon Pluses.

I found out that a friend of mine has a pipe wrench, so I'll be paying him in baklava for some help with the Jolly Roger's stuck seatpost. I suspect he might have a couple of the other necessary resources lying around, too - I'm thinking blow torches. It's good to be friends with engineers. Hmm. Maybe I should order a replacement seatpost, while I'm at it.

Over the weekend, I: got files to sharpen my handsaws, cooked a bit, went to a post-wedding reception, started a job application (due Weds), went bicycling and ate pancakes and pickles, started making plans for bike storage at J and K's place, downsized the worm bin (hooray/whew, still lots of happy worms), and did a little bit of packing.

The early stages of packing are kind of darkly hilarious to me right now. "Hmm, time to go through the jewelry box and get rid of the jewelry I wore once and never again." It won't make a lick of difference in the overall total volume of stuff packed, but now there are fewer items in there that I will have to paw through in the future. I discovered that I have something like 8 different guardian angel pin devices in there, plus a couple of little elephants from the Tufts days, plus a bajillion and three pins from the Head of the Charles and all the Concept2 Holiday Challenges. The rowing pins I shoved in the ziploc bag full of all the silly prize medals I've "won" at various rowing events in Texas. Eventually that ziploc bag will get merged with the main box. I think there are about 10 medals in total that have some sort of emotional significance, but I still haven't determined what to do with the rest of them. Maybe someday I should show up to something wearing ALL of them. And then ceremonially burn or smelt them or something.

A round of tchotchke-packing will probably be next. The ceramic boot and cactus vase are back in the same box I used when moving to Texas. The ant pupa was never unpacked.

But it's time for work. Back to the job application, plus working on the ggplot2 part of the R workshop I'm leading Thursday-Saturday, plus manuscript-writing, plus grant-writing.
