So, I think bikey things are starting to heat up in this region. There was a stakeholder meeting this morning on campus, with various representatives from local governing bodies, a bicycling consulting agency, and all the people they could round up on campus. There was the speaking-of-parts, and exchanging-of-opinions. But most importantly, there was a group of people gathered in a room to talk about the next steps for bicycling in the region.
I've done a fair bit of this stuff before, in Arizona. I won't be living here long-term, so I come with a different agenda and perspective. I'm happy to hear talk of plans to draw up a regional bike map and region-wide bike plan. More than anything, I'm happy to share experiences, and hear from people who have been doing their own bike-commuting thing and are now so grateful to learn of others doing the same thing. It's about community, yo. I'll make a positive impact wherever I can.
I'm also hoping this means more growth for things like Bike-Friendly Friday and the First Fridays Ride. We've got a core group going, but it's time to expand.
