My "list of things to cook" keeps ballooning out of control. I mostly blame that on the fact that things keep ripening. First the blackberries, then strawberries and rhubarb, then blueberries, and most recently, tomatoes. Yesterday, I asked [livejournal.com profile] scrottie if he thought we could declare this tomato season a success, and he said yes. That was after he spent several hours carefully staking up the tomato forest so we could get to all of the tomatoes as they ripen. His love of tomatoes is strong enough that he went through and collected up the half-rotted ones, cut off the rotted bits, and saved the remainder.

I used a mixture of tomatoes from the garden and from the farmer's market to make up an enormous batch of ketchup. There were so many tomatoes that the only container large enough to hold everything was the giant cast-iron Dutch oven. The ketchup had to simmer for a solid 3 hours, so by the time it finished it absorbed a large quantity of the iron from the pan and oxidized quite a bit. It's still pretty good, but in the future I think I'll try to avoid cooking up ketchup in cast-iron.

Saturday was also busy. I'm running crickets again, and wanted to get in a solid erg session, and on top of all that it was the night of the Austin World Naked Bike Ride (NSFW - boobs). S and I had both been interested in going to one and participating, and finally we had a chance. We've never made it to one in Arizona. We spent almost twice as long driving out to Austin and driving back as we spent in Austin, bicycling. It wasn't especially fun being the people who showed up for a bike ride with the bikes in a car, but all in all, I'm glad we were able to participate.

Now, work.
