Most commonly asked questions at the wedding:
What was that conference about? (referring to the Biomimicry conference I'd attended right before the wedding)
How much longer until you graduate? (what matters most, time or quality?)
Where will you go next?
Projects to scale down:
Bicycling (less involvement at Bike Saviours, reaching the end of my term on the TBAG board, getting the Phoenix Bike Guide to fledge)
Gardening (condense efforts; more things in smaller areas and in pots)
Possessions (need to get rid of a lot of junk)
Things I'm working on at school:
Finalizing the mathematical models I will use to characterize leafcutter ant colony growth, plus drafting that manuscript
Finalizing the protocol for my last experiment, which means -
- Figuring out carbon and nitrogen soaking solution concentrations and optimal dosages
- Figuring out whether I'm working with whole colonies or subcolonies
- Checking the phosphorus soaking solution to see if it worked, and how well
Tending my ant colonies (always ongoing)
Developing my list of postdoctoral options and contacting people
Working on my poster presentation for the conference in Copenhagen in August
Getting the lab balances serviced
Dealing with the latest permutation of my fall employment situation
Paperwork, and then more paperwork, for ordering chemicals and such things
Getting a protocol up and running for measuring chitin
Dealing with the Manuscript of Doom II: The Sequel
Writing a manuscript about biomimicry education
Reading a few relevant books and keeping up with the literature
Figuring out how to get undergraduates to do independent work
Other things:
Ceramics (always lots to do)
Knitting
Sewing projects
Bicycling (always lots of distance to cover)
Travel (another wedding next weekend)
Enjoying time with friends and
scrottie
Rowing (marathon training needs to be prioritized, as does whole-body fitness)
Piano
Cooking (hmm, what to make with all of that rhubarb?)
There. Aren't you glad you asked, Mom?

Date: 2010-07-14 05:12 pm (UTC)I think there was a whole episode of Jamie At Home devoted to rhubarb, but it was custard, a salad ingredient, and part of a cocktail. I can run down the recipe titles if you're interested.
