Once upon a time, some Developers out to make a hefty pile of cash in a hurry decided to build a mall. But then they decided it would be no ordinary mall. Nor would it be an ordinary strip-mall. Instead, it would be what would happen if you were to take a mall and a strip-mall and then turn them inside-out. And SUPERSIZE it, 'cause nothings any good unless it's HUGE. That's right, they put the parking lagoon in the center of a giant coliseum ringed with chain stores. Then they piped in some of the most hideous music you've ever heard in your life. And they pretended it was a good idea.

This will be a short review. Needless to say, I hope I never, ever go back.

I hate malls. Strip malls I'll put up with because I have no other choice, and at least the parking lagoons are smaller and more easily traversed (though they are still LAME TIMES A HUNDRED). But malls? Hmm. Yeah.

If you liked Tempe Marketplace, you'll LOVE Desert Ridge! It's identical!

There are a lot of things to hate about Tempe Marketplace, but the soft rock in the parking lot is the most offensive. The constant onslaught of easy-listening music is just one step away from lithium in the drinking water. I swear it rots your brain cells.

What kind of music do you want? Classical? It's a shopping mall located near a large university. Of course they're going to play "hip" music. It's classic rock and pop hits. It's probably a hell of a lot better than the gunshots that were being heard in the neighborhood that existed in that area prior to the mall.

Also, Desert Ridge is smaller. It's 1.2 million sqft. Tempe Marketplace is 1.3 million sqft.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect anything different, Anonymous: it's a MALL, after all. And playing music is a common strategy to prevent vagrants from settling in an area. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

And thanks for the tip on Desert Ridge. I won't visit that one, either.

I don't want ANY music in the parking lot. It's creepy! (And besides, all the people who need a soundtrack to their life have iPods.)

I hate malls too. I guess I just don't see the point of them, not my idea of a good time. It's like "how to make sure money leaves your town, and you get a bunch of shiny shit that you don't need in return." Malls and television, I'll let somebody else be involved in that.
