Perspective on Distance: pre-post

This weekend, I am planning on riding my bicycle (Spud, not the Jolly Roger) from Tempe, Arizona to Tucson, Arizona, an estimated distance of 115 miles. The next day, I plan to ride back.
The "why" of this event is interesting to consider: this is a geographical expedition with a very different meaning than riding from Seattle to Portland, as I have traveled from Tempe to Tucson many times over the past four and a half years, always by motorized vehicle (my travels between Seattle and Portland have been quite limited and detached from each other).
I will take pictures, and I suspect I'll try to write a lengthy update about the experience as well. Hopefully everything will go all right, as I won't have the company of 9,000 other riders this time (though there will be around or over 10 riders, and two motorized vehicles as well).
The decision to take Spud has been interesting, because of the attached dependencies (it has no racks for carrying things, so if I go long distances I must rely on help from others), but I think it's for the best because it will enable me to travel more efficiently and with fewer doubts. We shall see. This is a string of interesting decisions, really.
