I have just learned of the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development through an editorial published in the journal Nature: the editorial provided commentary on the recent withdrawal of agri-biotech giants Monsanto and Syngenta from the report development process. Supposedly this withdrawal is because of the project's drafted position on the role (or lack thereof) of biotechnology in reducing poverty and hunger. Personally, I just hope that the interests of monopolistic and greedy international economic entities are kept in check as this project continues (I can't say similar things about the most recent US Farm Bill, though it contained steps in some right directions).
