On being excited to go to work

This week, I have been excited to go to work. It's a nice feeling. I'm not completely sure why I'm so excited, but I can think of two possibilities:
1. I have been able to devote large chunks of time towards my dissertation research.
2. I have been able to work on the projects that matter the most to me [writing the Manuscript of Doom: the sequel]
This is work that usually ends up being sandwiched between more pressing demands: teaching, grading, reading papers for class, attending meetings and office hours, feeding and caring for ants. When it gets down to it, however, this is the work that gets me closer to graduating, closer to establishing my research program.
I've been getting better at fitting this work into the usual humdrum schedule--S in Australia helped me see the necessity of doing so. But still. This is a small taste of what the summer will be like.
