Today definitely feels like one of those "calm before the storm" kind of days. I feel like I should be working furiously on something, but I don't know what that thing is.

Mostly, it's because I have a lot of things on the ol' agenda for this evening and tomorrow, with times and places and people written down. It's as if I have to actually do WORK or something.

I think I'll feel better when we're on the road to Vegas.

In other news, my cat caught another American cockroach yesterday. She chomped it in half and left both halves sitting around. I put both halves outside for the ants. Makes me so glad I have a cat. Then she caught a wee gecko and ATE it. I can't really be mad at her for it--that wouldn't be fair to the cockroach. But geckos do eat mosquitoes, and I haven't seen Emma eat any mosquitoes yet. Maybe that could be her new trick. She is pretty crafty, after all.

My lovely cat was not an insect eater, and thus was useless on the destroy part of her "search and destroy" mission. She was, however, very good at letting you know when a creepy crawly was in the abode. She would stalk the critter to no end--staring intently at it and mewling softly until you (the big bad human) did something about it. I do miss her services!

Sometimes it can be nice to NOT have your cat destroy her prey. But on the other hand, it would have been a long day for my cat if she hadn't immediately chomped the cockroach--I came home after school to find it dead.

A lot of people ask, "What is the purpose of a cat?" Actually, their insect-hunting skills are one of their best utilities. Just don't tell the cats--they like to think they have no practical utility aside from functioning as gods. I like to think that's why Egyptians worshiped them.

I've contemplated life as a cat and I think I'd make a good one. (except for the not liking the creepy crawlies) I enjoy napping in sunlight, I'm rather curious, have bursts of energy and enjoy but do not demand the attention of others. ;)

Keep in mind, though, that you would also end up licking your own butt!

and, if reincarnated as a house cat, I would be regulated to pooping where my humans put my litter box. I'm not a big fan of pooping in possibly public places!
