Last night towards the end of the day I noticed that part of my left foot was sore--basically, the "ball" of my foot. This morning it was uncomfortable enough that when I got up to go to crew, I decided not to go because I didn't think I would be able to carry a 40-pound boat on my head and walk all the way down to the lake.
The problem is that I'm not entirely sure why my foot hurts. It could be the shoes I was wearing--I have started wearing my Chaco sandals again now that it is warmer and I've started feeling like my flip-flops don't provide enough arch support. Or it could be from biking in the wrong shoes--I have been putting in a lot of distance since it is Valley Bike Month. Or it could be that I haven't been stretching my calf muscles enough and they have tightened up and are straining the sole of my foot.
I guess I just have to wait and see if it starts to feel better by the end of the day. I'm back to the shoes I wear pretty much all of the time (Simple shoes with Superfeet insoles) and I guess I have to try to stay off my feet (I teach tonight, so that's going to be interesting), and when I'm on my feet I'm trying to avoid using that part of my foot (which makes for a pretty attractive limp). But altogether, this is not a fun development.

Date: 2006-04-19 09:03 pm (UTC)I get foot soreness and cramps for two reasons - overuse and shoe adjustment.
If you roll your foot over a golf ball it will help release any tension in the foot, and then if you sit with your food nestled in a bag of frozen peas for a while it will help with any inflamation.
Vitamin I is always recommeded though - sometimes weird pain is just inflammation from shoes or a weird step or anything.
Feel better :(

At this point, I think it was probably something I did while on my bike. Ah well.
