Jul. 21st, 2022 08:43 amI have a very mild cough and the back of my throat has been scratchy the last two days, so at around midnight I got up and took a Covid antigen test, which was negative.
The responsible, adult thing to do is stay home, so I am. Even if it isn't the pestilence, it's not a good idea to share other diseases with others, either.
More than anything, it's just annoying. I still haven't really sorted out my workflow between this computer and my work computer, which just adds to the activation energy for getting anything done.
With the weather the way it is this week, for the day we're running the room a/c and leaving all doors inside the house open to keep the entire interior of the house cooler. When I got up at midnight to Covid test myself, I also opened up the house and ran a box fan in one window, which brought indoor temperatures down to 81 degrees from yesterday's indoor high temperature of 84 degrees. In this house, an indoor high temperature of 84 degrees is high enough that I lose motivation to do much of anything. The thermometer outside indicated that the low outdoor temperature this morning was 76 degrees, so at least we aren't in Arizona, but even during the monsoon season Arizona isn't nearly this sticky and humid.
I guess I just need to recalibrate my expectations for energy bills out here, to expect high energy bills both in the summer due to refrigeration costs, and high energy bills in the winter due to heating costs. I actually care slightly less about the financial cost, and more about the environmental cost. This is not a great way to live.
When we eventually start to look more seriously at buying a house, heating and cooling are absolutely going to factor in. That won't be for another couple of years, though; right now is really not a great time to be house-shopping.
