St. Louis drivers are MANIACS. Felt like driving in CA.

Rest areas pretty empty.

Emma is a very patient cat. When I reached Oklahoma, _that_ is when my heart opened back up again. I think it was reaching more open grassland.

Cities with major highway projects and commentary thereupon:

Indianapolis: a hot mess. Wow I have never seen so many semis on the road like that before. Might have something of a Bakersfield CA feel to it.

OKC: doing a lot but everything is very clear and well-organized.

Amarillo, TX: also a hot mess. I tried taking Business Route 40 and saw glimpses of a fascinating side of Amarillo. Lots of hole in the wall ethnic restaurants and groceries. I also tried finding a credit union and wound up in a giant abandoned strip mall. Eventually did find one.

It was interesting to see how grassy and flat and windy the TX panhandle is.

Lots of chollas with bright pink blooms in New Mexico.

Almost 2000 miles in. I have plans for breakfast at the Church Street Cafe in Albuquerque tomorrow.
