Yesterday by the time I wrapped up teaching and cricket-cleaning duties, it was 2 pm. I had optimistically hauled the bike trailer into campus, hoping to make it to the farmer's market and then the hardware store, but it was too late, so I just headed straight to the hardware store.

They had drip hose, plant stakes, hose repair pieces, and a handful of other small items, but no irrigation timers.

By the time I got home, it was 5 pm and I was rather hungry. I quickly made and ate some nachoes, and then saddled up my bike again to go over to the grocery co-op since I still needed to pick up at least *some* groceries for the week.

By the time I got home again, it was 8 pm and time to hang out with [personal profile] scrottie on Zoom until I got too tired and fell asleep.

I have been waking up early lately in part because the sun is up so early. This morning that meant I had enough time to make pancakes before it was time to head down to the boathouse to work on putting in our dock extension.

We only had a small crew but we were able to make short work of the project.

Once that wrapped up I took a few minutes to go through the boathouse and inventory our boats and rowing machines. During a previous inventory update I put in a lot of serial numbers for a lot of pieces of equipment, but I hadn't included the city boat license numbers. Good to have that chore done, I suppose.

Then I came home, ate some lunch, and played a game of Scrabble against S where I misspelled the word TOBOGGAN. S was kind enough to not challenge my misspelled bingo, which meant I won.

Then, to the garden.

I finally got to use my compost sifter!

Isn't this pile of sifted compost a beautiful sight? Applying compost to the soil fills me with joy.

I did a bit of weeding, figured out where I wanted to put in plants, put them in and added the drip line.

Kind of funny how there are 4 bushy things in the main section of the garden, one in each corner:

This full-sun patch got two kinds of basil and a pepper plant. The stakes are still up around the edges, so hopefully this year the landlord's son won't weed-whack them. Also notice the irises in the background. More flowers than last year!

I moved the hose holder and stuck a number of the potted herbs into the ground because I think they will have a better chance of surviving the summer if they're in the ground. The section on the right now contains lavender, chives, cutting celery, and sage. I planted the dead dahlia bulbs in the section on the left, next to the rhubarb, just in case they aren't completely dead.

I put in a line of tomatoes in the front and a line of beans in the way-back. This photo also shows that the strawberries are looking pretty happy right now.

I didn't finish fixing the leaking hose, but I did lay out the drip hose to see how I liked it.

I also didn't carve out enough time to cook dinner, so now I have to hope that I can make it home in time this week to cook something during the work week.

I am looking forward to a weekend someday where I don't have to work over the weekend. It's getting old.
