Posted this to a different social media site, but I want to put it here, too.
Last year at this time, I had just given a department seminar, prepared and submitted my two-year review materials, and gotten sick with a nasty cold, probably in good part because of overwork and inadequate rest. To top it all off, S had just headed out to California to spend much-needed time on his sailboat, so it was just me and Emma holding down the fort at home. For multiple reasons and for better or worse, all evidence suggests that nasty cold was NOT Covid, but it was starting to become apparent that Covid had made it to the US and community spread was occurring in the Boston area and New York, even in Albany.
With all that going on, it was with great reluctance and a strong sense of disappointment that I withdrew from participating in the annual CRASH-B Indoor Rowing Championships, and had to spectate from home instead.
This year, the CRASH-B's are happening as a virtual event - a decision I strongly support. This year, I am not sick and therefore able to participate, a fact for which I am grateful. If you happen to want to watch this form of self-inflicted activity, there's a live stream at the link below. I'll be racing at 1:40 pm, and no matter what my time is or how I place, I'm grateful for the opportunity to line up at the starting line again.
