It started raining again last night, and was raining this morning when I got up to go to rowing practice. I was feeling a little grumbly: if practice was canceled, then what? Go to work super early? Meanwhile, if we went out and rowed in the rain, was that going to be useful and productive? It was cool enough to want to wear extra layers, which interfere with the oar handles, and then there's the problem that it's hard to grip wet oar handles and the water softens calluses and causes them to rip up.
Coach Y had us do an erg practice instead. Back to a life of erging under a freeway. Still, it was the best-possible compromise.
As we got ready to leave at the end of practice, one of the other rowers looked me in the eye and said pleasantly but firmly, "See you tomorrow morning."
So, uh, I guess I am attending Saturday practices now, on a regular basis. At least they start an hour later?
Now I am tired and I don't want to keep on grading exams. But I must.
