Long Live the Jolly Roger

The local bike shop called me this afternoon. Despite their best efforts (and they really put a lot of effort in), the seat tube cracked on the Jolly Roger whilst they tried to extract the stuck seatpost.

I'm not going to race ahead and make hasty plans for a replacement just yet. I posted a series of tribute photos over on the Book of Face and should really duplicate that effort here because you'd all enjoy the photo-montage more. Maybe tomorrow.

Awwww I'm sorry to hear that. Also that is officially the worst stuck seatpost I've ever heard about.

I have tried to take a couple of photos of the inside of the seat tube. There's still some shrapnel in there, and the mechanic said that at this stage I'd basically need to find a machinist with the correct size of reamer to give it a good reaming. There are also some new dents in the top tube. Oh - and he did say that he wound up trying ammonia, and that it did seem to help!

They wouldn't accept a monetary payment, so I dropped off a bottle of La Duchesse when I went over to pick up the bike's remains.

A couple of people say they have a few ideas for the next bike. We shall see...

Yeah, I think it is. S keeps saying words about welding, but given the overall state of things I think it's time to call it quits and move on. It's going to take extra work to figure out a replacement, though...annoying!

I was thinking the same as S. I know people locally who could repair that easily. I'm not sure it's worth it, though.
