A ball of yarn, a sketchbook
Aug. 19th, 2009 11:35 amTomorrow I will leave for Salt Lake City, and I am not looking forward to the plane ride (the other alternative, Greyhound, would take a full eleven hours, and I just couldn't bear to face that). I just don't like airplanes. The subsequent car ride should be fine, though, for at least I'll feel some connection to the landscape.
I think I will leave the laptop behind for this trip, so I can attend to other things, like finishing up my arm-warmers and starting the next knitting/crocheting projects in line. In general, I need to update my list of things to make--I keep coming up with brilliant project ideas for ceramics and I don't want them to evaporate. I will probably be overly optimistic and bring along more things than I will be able to finish on this trip. We shall see. If I am lucky, I will also be able to find some time and space to finish the book I've been reading for months (I read nonfiction so slowly), and will also find some time and space to draw and write things on paper. I just don't know, though--it will depend on how much attention the relatives require.
I re-potted a few plants this morning, a feel-good project that only required a few quick minutes. The jade plant that
sytharin gave to me is now housed in a handmade ceramic pot that I rediscovered a few weeks ago in the pot-heap in the back yard. I will have to provide visual aids so that you can appreciate it--it has tentacles.
I also upgraded a sage plant and rosemary plant, so that hopefully some day they will reach edible size. Out of everything I have tried to grow, the herbs have been the most rewarding so far. I'm still trying to decide how to manage two houseplant cuttings that we received from friends, because they will need to live somewhere out of the reach of mycowcat. Right now they are precariously balanced on a too-narrow ledge that won't be able to hold them once they are re-potted. We have a couple of available ceiling hooks, but I lack the means to hang things from them at the moment.
