Realignment
Aug. 18th, 2009 12:16 pmThis morning, after rowing and then taking care of miscellaneous things around the house and lab, I headed over to the Student Recreation Center for my first physical therapy appointment. I can easily understand why my mother finds physical therapy so compelling and interesting--there's something cool about knowing how the body works and moves, and about knowing how to get things realigned and functioning again. The therapist who worked with me did an especially nice job with the diagnostic component of the appointment, and said that he thinks I have some underlying postural issues (twisted spine) and that my shoulder problems seem to be more symptom than problem themselves. So he gave me a relatively simple set of exercises to work on realigning my hips and I'll go back next Tuesday.
In the meantime, there's a lot of other stuff going on. I am going to fly up to Salt Lake City on Thursday, and from there I will drive with my cousin up to Ennis, MT for my aunt's memorial service. One of the most difficult parts is going to be sitting still through all of the traveling. I might have to bring along a pair of running shoes.
Classes technically start up next week, although I won't start teaching labs until the following week. The garden desperately needs and deserves attention, and the chicken coop needs to go from plan to actuality. And I need to forge ahead on all of the little research projects that I have been ignoring all summer.
