A very happy birthday to my dear, wonderful sister [livejournal.com profile] sytharin! Of course, I imagine you won't check your f-list until some inconvenient time well after the fact, but oh well. :)

Just for you, NPR's Talk of the Nation Science Friday is going to feature Michael Pollan and Marion Nestle. In case you can't catch it on the air, you can listen to past shows on the Talk of the Nation website.

I haven't yet decided what to give you, but a package will appear in your mailbox...someday...

Here's another link to NPR's Talk of the Nation Science Friday on the current Farm Bill:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12680704

It features three phenomenal food writers who can provide the beginning of an idea of what's involved in regulating the food industry in this country. There are also some additional sources of information that are discussed in the middle of the story, such as Marion Nestle's blog based on her most recent book. It also reminded me to double-check Michael Pollan's website, which has permanent links to all of his writings (I mention this mostly because I tried to relocate one of his New York Times Magazine stories recently but couldn't...).

If anyone has ideas for resources for deconstructing the components of the farm bill, please let me know. I'm thinking I'd like to write to my Congressperson to voice my opinion on the matter, but my opinion is more meaningful if it's well-informed about important issues in the bill. I'm all ears.

Update:

Here's a link to a website that will allow you to send a message to your Congressional representative:
