The Wall: Hello, wall.
Feb. 1st, 2007 01:30 pmI went on a bike ride this morning with my friend K, and then we stopped for a quick coffee before I ran off to teach. Teaching went better this week. I did less talking and the students did more thinking and working. Labs that allow for that kind of structure are more fun. Caffeine also helps. Then I went to a lunchtime meeting, and partway through I ran head-on into a Wall of Exhaustion largely due to caffeine wearing off and dehydration (what a winning combination!).
Bleh. I see a nap in my future. A nap and a lot of work because I won't get much done tomorrow (we have an academic visitor and I am basically his host). All in the name of Science. And then the weekend, and with it, a day o' baking and evening o' desserts and cocktails. And then a morning o' teaching people to row, followed by an afternoon to (finally!) get some work done.
One thing I liked about Australia is I didn't feel compelled to socialize. Socializing is nice, except that it interferes with my ability to focus on the things I need to get done. And at some point, I must make progress so I can graduate some day and leave. I need to find more balance here, so I feel happier about the progress I'm making at school.
