Too much to catch up on, really.

For Tuesday's lab we studied skeletal muscle function, using gastrocnemius muscles from grass frogs. When I went to euthanize the frogs for the morning lab, a frog that had been looking lethargic had some sort of horrible-looking disease spots on its belly. On social media elsejournal, a friend put me in touch with someone who studies amphibian disease, so I will eventually send them a sample. Their preliminary guess is that it's a ranavirus, and they recommended 10% bleaching everything that can't be autoclaved. So now I am wondering whether it's possible to autoclave pebbles, but I'm thinking I probably shouldn't find out the hard way.

Thankfully I won't need to bring in more frogs until the end of next fall, so there's some time to try and sort things out when it isn't the end of term.

Last Saturday we discovered another box full of old rowing plaques; I opened it up last night and discovered that it must have spent some time underwater during Hurricane Irene, because there was silt on everything. At some point I should write more about the trophy archives, but this is not the time.

Yesterday we also got word that work crews will be powerwashing the inside of the boat shed on Friday. So once again there was some scrambling to figure out when and how to remove some remaining items from the floor. We got the critical things moved out this morning right after practice. I was dismayed that there wasn't a treasure chest full of gold underneath the oar rack platform. Just an empty granola bar wrapper.

I did *finally* get to row for the first time this morning. It was not a gentle, gradual transition back onto the water. Hopefully my body will handle that okay. I see more stretching and time with Priscilla in my future.

Well, then, you need to find a toy treasure chest, sprinkle some gold dust in it, and glue googly eyes on the inside of the lid. Leave it for whoever gets to move the oars years from now when the city repairs the boat shed again.
