The project of converting my labs to LaTeX files continues. It is still fun, and has been incredibly helpful for standardizing the structure of the labs and getting me to revisit and clarify a bunch of the material that each lab contains.
It has also been the impetus for creating new visual summaries of certain key concepts. Behold, nervous system overview and interface with heart function:

Behold, coordination of breathing and heart function in response to exercise:

Caveat: both of these are simplifications of our full understanding of these phenomena.
Interestingly, many students still appear to struggle with completing many of the fairly basic calculations they need to complete for various purposes, in spite of the fact that I'm now supplying them with much more nicely formatted equations. I chalk this up to the fact that this is a skill they haven't been asked to practice enough (yet).

I really enjoy drawing, so I do a lot of it, and the practice really helps! But I think it also helps to know that it isn't a totally magical skill, too. I'm definitely not one of those people who can imagine a scene and draw it all out in its entirety.
