I am not going to tell you how much. Just, a lot.
But: the numbers are now crunched, the preliminary grades assigned, and the whining deadline is set to 11 am tomorrow. After that, I turn in final grades and I am 100% DONE for the semester.
As it turns out, most students did manage to step it up and get themselves into the various "passing" categories. This included several students who were real borderline cases but who eventually realized they needed to make some changes, and then did. The ones who didn't pass had lackluster performance across the board, on homework assignments and exams, and if they were to try and argue I could easily demonstrate why they've gotten the grade they did. Whew.
Now I have slightly under a month until the spring semester starts. I will be traveling for about 50% of that time, first to visit family in Minnesota, then to a conference in Texas. I've come to resent this time of year, because although it seems like there should be room to breathe, there really isn't.
I think in the long term I am going to establish a rotating winter break schedule and plan. I will go to the West Coast one year, to the Midwest another year, and then I will stay in place the third year. Next winter, the annual conference I tend to go to is actually in Seattle, so I can just go there. Barring major life changes, based on this general plan, the year after that will be ALL MINE. Interestingly, that would coincide with a sabbatical semester.
In somewhat related news, it looks like Office Mouse had a little office party over the weekend, which involved gnawing on the Purple Passion Plant, and also breaking into the bag of herbal coffee to give it a try. This one has skipped the jade plant so far. The most vulnerable houseplants are all now sequestered in an aquarium for the time being, and I guess it's time to stash the beverage selection in the bin with the other tempting food items. Such a jerk.
On that note, time to go water the ants, and then head home.
