So I just went to Performance Footwear, one of those places that analyzes how your feet move and then helps you locate appropriate shoes. Back in high school, I had a bit of a problem with a knee at one point and went to see a sports PT, who said she thought I was over-pronating and recommended insoles. So I've been operating under that assumption for quite a while now. Well, as of today, it appears that I neither pronate nor supinate--my legs line up perfectly over my heels. How interesting. So I bought a pair of shiny silver and purple shoes, and will give them quite a test run tomorrow. I wonder what my mother the PT would conclude if she were to do some gait analysis on me.

Yes, there MUST be. I think this type of store is all the rage these days. For starters, there's The Seattle Running Companty, but you might also be able to find something closer to where you live. I just put "running shoes, Seattle, WA" into Google Local and that was the first hit.

Yeah, I've been pounding my feet to death with some cheap sneakers, which is not fun while training for a marathon. And since you're on your feet all day, you should definitely invest in some good shoes.

The BEST place in Seattle to get fitted for running shoes is Super Jock and Jill on Greenlake.

I "second" Jock'n'Jill in Seattle for running shoes, even though I haven't been there myself as I'm not a runner! Were you asking for my gait opinion? I think your rear-foot is (feet are) balanced, with a slightly high arch on one side (can't remember which), and a very slight amount of "intoeing" on that same side. Nothing to write home about!! What's important in running (and walking) is that your feet pronate to the degree they should--when they should, and then re-supinate at just the right time. Good shoes, and socks, are important for running and $$ well spent. The rest of your get-up--you can decide whether or not to spend. With your current training activity, I'm glad you've gone for good shoes!!
