Kitty kidney failure

scrottie took Emma in to the emergency vet today, where bloodwork indicates advanced kidney failure. I can't say this is much of a surprise; it's a common way for cats to die.

I'm grateful that I should still be able to see her and give her some pets when I get back from this trip late this evening. Also very grateful to S for being home while I've been out of town, especially for bringing Emma in to the better emergency vet.

I'm not completely sure of the best things to do by way of palliative care for Emma at this stage. Also not sure of what I want to do in terms of burial, yet.

Anyway, I wanted to post something here so there aren't any sudden surprises, I guess.

Oh thank you. She and I have had 17 years together and some amazing adventures, and she has been such an incredible kitty.

I'm glad that she still has at least a little more time remaining; she's not really eating but still drinking some, but I can see she's just going to get weaker and weaker from here.

My kitty died at 17 from kidney failure also, early this year. Now that it's getting colder, I'm missing the way he'd shove his little nose into my face when he wanted to get under the covers where it was warm.

For a cat, 17 years is a pretty good run. And it’s clear she's been well looked after and played with the whole time.

Still, this is really sad news.
